The Riverside County Sheriff's Office's Southwest Station has issued a warning that St. Patrick's Day is a dangerous day for drivers. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated that 1,355 people were killed in alcohol-impaired traffic crashes in California in 2023. Deputy Nicholas Gruwell outlined how to plan for a safe, sober way home: designate a sober driver, use ridesharing services, taxis, or public transportation. Make sure that friends or family members are not driving impaired and keep tabs on each other. The funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.
