The gender drama "Mistake," directed by Honey Lauren, premiered at the Gasparilla Film Festival in Tampa on March 5. The film follows a rural South couple in 1941 when their newborn baby is told he is intersex, meaning he has the reproductive organs and will display specific traits of both sexes. The story follows a farmer's struggle to identify his child as a boy named Lawrence, raised as "Larry" and raised him as a "he" after birth. The movie, which won "Most Inspirational Film" at the recent Sedona Film Festival, is Lauren's first feature film for the actress and director, whose short documentary films, Wives of the Sky and Happy Hands, received critical acclaim. The script was written 11 years ago and was inspired by Lauren's own struggle with gender dysphoria.
