Alleged Iranian spies with ties to the Iranian regime have been charged with infiltrating Silicon Valley. Three Iranian software engineers, Samaneh Ghandali, and Mohammadjavad Khosravi, have been indicted for stealing trade secrets from tech companies, including Google. They are accused of using their positions at unidentified tech companies to gain access to confidential and sensitive information. The suspects' father, Shahabeddin Ghandli, was arrested in Iran in 2016 for embezzlement and fraud involving Iran's Bank Sarmayeh. Critics argue that the family connections could have facilitated the alleged spying. Kaveh Lotfolah Afrasiabi, a prominent Iranian-American political science professor who has taught at Harvard and other elite universities, was charged with failing to register as a foreign agent for Iran under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) in 2021.
