Thierry Frémaux, chief of the Cannes Film Festival, has released a documentary, Lumière, Le Cinéma!, about the French brothers, Auguste and Louis Lumiere, who shot some of the first motion pictures ever made in 1895. The documentary, which premiered in Los Angeles on April 25 and will be broadcast on the Criterion Channel on May 1, is directed, written, directed, and narrated by Frémaaux. The film follows the brothers' journey in various genres of cinema, with their debut short film, La Sortie de l’usine Lumiès à Lyon. The director credits the brothers for their pioneering work in cinema, not their work in moviemaking, but their work as a champion.
