Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (N.Y.) has called the SAVE Act, the voting reform legislation that Republicans are bringing up for the floor, one of the most despicable pieces of legislation I've seen. Schumer accused President Trump and his Senate allies of attempting to disenfranchise millions of Americans and undermine democracy by pushing the bill to counter the Republican Party's political problems due to a weakening economy and rising costs. The bill's requirement for photocopies of voter ID for in-person voting and mail-in voting is considered unworkable by leading Democratic election lawyer Marc Elias. Janai Nelson, president and director-counsel of the Legal Defense Fund, argued that the new voter ID requirements were not necessary and would only restrict millions of people from voting.
