Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi has stated that other tech executives are lying about the scale of AI disruption, which could lead to job displacement. Khosroshahi believes that AI will replace the work that 70% to 80% of humans currently do within a decade. He also expressed doubt about universal basic income as a solution, stating that jobs provide purpose and value that UBI has not proven it can replace. Despite these admissions, Khosrosshahi did not exempt Uber from the disruption described. The company has 9.5 million drivers and couriers globally and expects the majority of Uber trips to be fulfilled by autonomous vehicles. The shift is already occurring inside Uber, with 90% of its engineers using AI tools daily and 30% rewriting entire systems from scratch using AI agents.
