Asking Eric: Our family inheritance was not divided up equally

A decade ago, my aunt died and left her estate to her mother, myself and three siblings, but my portion of the estate was significantly higher than my siblings due to my stock and mutual fund earnings. My mom was very upset that the inheritance was not divided up equally and asked me several times why my portion would be so much larger. However, I did not know this was unintentional. I was the only one in my generation to visit and get to know my out-of-state aunt, so it's possible she intended to give it to him. The author of this article suggests that while the financial situation in the stock market is unpredictable, the author acknowledges that he did everything he could possibly control the stock markets and what his aunt chose to give.
