Minnesota bill unlocking lead pipe replacement funds remains in limbo

Minnesota lawmakers have just 10 days left to reach a deal to unlock hundreds of millions of dollars for local construction projects. The capital investment package, known as a bonding bill, requires a three-fifths vote in both chambers and requires bipartisan support. Senate Capital Investment Chair Sandy Pappas and House Capital Investment Co-Chairs Fue Lee and Mary Franson have called for passage of a bill that includes at least $100 million for lead pipe replacement. Other projects on the wish list include wastewater treatment plants, fire station remodels, and zoo upgrades. A separate measure authorizing a sales tax extension could be folded into a sweeping tax bill.
