The Royals have opted for the optioning of Avila, Cruz, and Daniel Lynch IV to bolster their 25-man pitching staff for the start of the season. The move aligns with the future of both players, who are expected to be in Kansas City at some point in 2026. This move is aimed at preserving the team's depth and looking ahead to their future. The team's bullpen is expected to consist of Carlos Estévez, Lucas Erceg, Matt Strahm, John Schreiber, Nick Mears, Alex Lange, Bailey Falter and Dan Lynch IV. Manager Matt Quatraro said that Cruz's decision to move him to Triple-A is more of a bigger picture look, stretching him out to multiple innings and allowing him to be ready quicker in case the Royals need him in the Majors.
