The Santa Monica City Council has appointed Patricia von Tongeln as its new City Attorney, effective upon council approval on March 24. She has served in the role since September 2025, replacing Thomas Sloan who resigned to work for an agency in central California. Von Tongeln, who joined the city attorney's office in 2012, has nearly 20 years of municipal law experience. She will receive an annual salary of $395,352.
