The National Football League (NFL) has defended its broadcasting strategy amid a growing shift from live sports to pay TV. The NFL stated that more than 80% of its games are broadcast on free broadcast TV and 100% of local games are on local over-the-air. The league also noted that 86% of the top 100 TV programs in 2025 were from NFL.
