Israel will disarm Hezbollah if the Lebanese government continues to allow the terrorist organization to rearm and rebuild, according to IDF spokesperson Brig.-Gen. Effie Defrin. Defrin warned that despite promises from the government to disarm Hezbollah, Hezbollah is still operating and conducting attacks from southern Lebanon. He also highlighted Hezbollah's efforts to rebuild and its attacks on Israel since joining the Iranian regime, which he said are putting both Israeli and Lebanese civilians at risk. Senior Hezbollah official Wafiq Safa admitted that Hezbollah is actively rebuilding and has been working on building up its capabilities over the past 15 months. Safa also criticised Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam's support for a move to disarm Hezbollah as "ill-considered" and accused him of "sitting in a trap" for expressing openness to negotiation with Israel.
