Graney: UNLV basketball like everybody else in NCAA basketball portal madness

The transfer portal allows college basketball teams to replace players from the transfer portal with players who are leaving for greener pastures. Over 2,000 players have already entered the portal this year. Despite this, UNLV coach Josh Pastner's first season with the team included 13 new faces last year, and he may have to sign near that many again given senior departures and those who have jumped into the portal. San Diego State coach Brian Dutcher believes that players can see their true worth on the open market and that it's just the new way of doing business. Recruiting for high school players has changed significantly since the portal became more accessible. However, the focus on high school recruiting has shifted from high school to college level, with more players landing older players and earning more titles.
