Several intense supercell thunderstorms moved across northern Illinois and northwestern Indiana, leading to tornadoes that killed at least two people in northwest Indiana and destroyed buildings in Kankakee, Illinois. The National Weather Service confirmed that one of the tornadoes was responsible for at least four tornadoes. The storms destroyed buildings, shattered windows, tore off roofs and smashed vehicles in Kanksakee. The weather service is investigating the strength and number of tornadoes, and parts of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio remain under a tornado watch. An elderly couple was killed in their home in Lake Village, northwestern Indiana. The storm injured less than 10 people and caused significant damage to a landscape and garden center. About 4,300 customers in Lake village and surrounding communities were without power late Wednesday morning, down from more than 11,000 at the peak of the storm.
