Councillor battling aggressive cancer elected Shetland convener

Bryan Peterson, an independent councillor for Shethend, has been elected as convener of the Shetland Islands Council following the resignation of Andrea Manson. Peterson, who served as depute convener for four years, will serve until the council elections in May 2027. The appointment means he will oversee full council meetings and represent the area at ceremonial events.
