The Canadian left has protested that Tim Hortons, Canada's largest food and beverage chain, named after a hockey player who died in a car crash while driving at twice the legal alcohol limit under the influence of drugs, is promoting a line of donuts and drinks to celebrate the 25th anniversary of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone" movie franchise. The backlash started when the coffee chain announced its new Harry Potter menu and merchandise, a celebration of the "beloved" movie's 25th birthday. The 2SLGBTQ+ community and allies have called this "transphobic" since author J.K. Rowling believes that men are men and women are women, leading to a boycott of the chain. The chain, which has over 4,000 locations across Canada, is also named after player who was killed in a drunk driving accident. The reaction to the promotion was swift, with many expressing concern that it should reflect Canada's inclusive and proud of its diversity.
