Athletics first baseman Nick Kurtz has left a game against the Boston Red Sox with a bruised forearm after being hit by a pitch. Kurtz was batting in the first inning when he was hit by Red Sox starter Patrick Sandoval's 95 mph sinker. He had just returned from the injured list after being out with a right thumb sprain. Kurtzman is currently batting at a strikeout rate of 260 and leads the Athletics with 21 home runs.
