Megan Turner, a former social studies teacher in Columbus, is opening a local bookstore, Rooted Books, to help people find books by diverse authors. The store joins a growing number of Black-owned bookstores nationwide, which are increasing representation and expanding access to titles by authors who increasingly face bans in public schools and libraries. The first State of the Black Bookstore report revealed this year, with over 300 Black-oriented bookstores now representing around 8% of all independent bookstores. Turner's first event will take place at Bottoms Up Coffee on the Near East Side.
