The first weekend of spring has been marked by record highs of 20-30 degrees above average across Utah, with temperatures reaching record highs in many areas. Despite this, the majority of Utah cities have seen record high temperatures every day since Wednesday. The state's snowpack is rapidly melting at a rapid rate, leading to fears that it may have already reached record low peak snowpack for the season, peaking on March 7th at 8.4 inches. Despite a slight dip in temperatures on Sunday, temperatures will return to record territory by early next week. The extreme weather is contributing to an unstable snowpack, which has led to a significant avalanche threat in the Northern and Eastern Mountains. Despite no rain in the forecast nor seasonal temperatures in the foreseeable future, long-range outlooks are suggesting warm dry weather will persist.
