Sony Interactive Entertainment has increased its PlayStation 5 and PS5 Pro prices effective April 2. This is the second price increase in less than a year, following a $50 increase in August 2025. The PlayStation Portal, Sony's handheld game streaming device, is also increasing by $50 to $249.99. The company cited "continued pressures in the global economic landscape" as the primary reason for the price increases. Industry analysts attribute these increases to rising costs of RAM and memory components, driven up by demand from AI data centers, and the impact of trade tariffs on electronics manufacturing and imports. The PS5 launched in 2020 at $499.99 for the disc edition and $399.99, with the PS5 pro launching at $699.99 and will now cost $200 more in two years. The price gap between Sony and Nintendo has significantly widened.
