A bipartisan group of lawmakers has urged the Trump administration to impose sanctions on ex-Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik for undermining peace and security in the Balkans. The lawmakers, led by Sens. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.), the ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Thom Tillis (R-C.C.), argue that the sanctions should have been imposed on March 18. Dodik was removed from office in 2025 for undermining the 1995 Dayton Peace Accords. The Biden administration sanctioned Dodik in 2022 for corruption and threats to stability and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and further sanctioned members of his family in January 2025. President Trump removed the sanctions without explanation in October 2025. The bipartisan group highlighted instances of Dodik's influence on his former party, SNSD, and Republika Srpska President Sinisa Karan.
