Beets are a great crop to grow for many reasons, including providing nutrients and providing valuable nutrients for plants that grow well alongside other plants. Companion planting, or intercropping, takes advantage of the benefits different types of plants offer each other to reduce pests, improve growth, and enhance the flavor of your vegetables. The best companion plants for beets include bush beans, which enrich the soil with nitrogen fixers, and beets also thrive alongside soybeans and butter beans, but not pole beans. While these types of bush beans are great companions for beet, catnip is one of the best, repel many common insect pests such as aphids, flea beetles, and Japanese beetles. Other notable companion plants include garlic, onions, and other alliums, which repel pests like aphids and fleas, and garlic emits sulfur into the soil, providing antifungal support to nearby plants like beets. However, these plants should be kept separate from each other in its own plot or plot. The worst companion plants should not be grown in the same bed or plot as it does in the garden.
