Marblehead, Massachusetts, is pushing for a three-tier, or phased-in tax override to save staff, services, and infrastructure. The $9 million "partial restoration" override would restore 9 staff position cuts and some town services, while the $12 million "build" override will keep staff and services roughly at current levels. However, the $15 million "invest" override could begin to fill unfilled positions and make improvements that have been delayed or eliminated in recent years. A "no" vote on these proposals would result in drastic cuts to town government, with cuts starting in the second year. The proposal also includes a structured breakdown of school and town funding based on an equation of 62 percent of the budget going to the schools and 38 percent to local staff and administrative staff.
