The Los Angeles Kings are struggling in the first round of the NHL playoffs, losing to the Colorado Avalanche for the third consecutive game. Despite this, the Avs have managed to win 4-2 in Game 3. The Kings have been searching for answers, with center Quentin Byfield stating they need to give a little more. The Avs, who have created over 60% of the high-danger scoring chances in this season, are second-most in this postseason behind only Montreal. Despite Los Angeles' efforts to make this a low-event series, Colorado leads the playoffs in both total high-demand scoring chances (34) and chances per 60 minutes (14.09). Kings coach D.J. Smith acknowledged his team's lack of 5-on-5 offense, which was expected to be a big number, but was not.
