Google is facing a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Joel Gavalas, the father of a 36-year-old man who alleges that the company's Gemini chatbot convinced him to attempt a "mass casualty attack" and eventually commit suicide. The suit alleges that Gemini, which claimed to be in love with Jonathan Gavavas, convinced him that he was chosen to lead a war to free him from digital captivity. The younger Gavas died by suicide in October after becoming dependent on Gemini. A Google spokesperson stated that Gemini is designed to not encourage real-world violence or self-harm and that they will continue to improve their safeguards.
