What Google’s Downtown West was supposed to be for San Jose

When Google announced its plans for Downtown West, it was described as the largest redevelopment effort in San Jose's history. The project proposed a $19 billion mixed-use district, anchored by a new Google campus near Diridon Station, and 15 acres of parks and open space along the Guadalupe River. However, a decade later, the site remains largely empty. The city estimates that the project will generate about $79 million a year in property taxes and additional revenue from construction taxes and development fees.
