British Energy Policy Is Self-Defeating and Suicidal

The UK government's energy policy is being labelled as self-defeating and suicidal by the International Energy Agency (IE). The UK is refusing to develop significant energy resources in the British sector of the North Sea, despite leading to importing oil and gas from abroad at great cost. This comes as Britain contributes little more than 1 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions compared to other countries like China, India, and the United States. The Labour government also imports millions of tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from America and the Middle East at a significant cost, not just to British industry but to the environment. Critics argue that extracting energy and gas will not bring down the price at the petrol pump or on home heating bills as it is bought and sold on the world market. However, this is irrelevant as all gas extracted from North Sea is piped directly to the UK where it is used.
