United Airlines' CEO, Scott Kirby, has warned that ticket prices could increase by up to 20% if oil prices remain elevated amid the Iran war. The airline expects consumer backlash and reduced travel demand if ticket prices rise, and has already begun adjusting its network in response. Kirby warned that sustained high oil prices would require significant fare increases. He also noted that United has already cut about 5% of its capacity and reduced unprofitable routes due to rising fuel costs. He said the airline plans for oil prices to remain elevated through next year, and expects crude prices to stay above $100 through 2027. Experts have warned that high prices will make it harder for people to travel and could make it more difficult for smaller regional airports.
