The textile industry in Panipat, India, is a major hub for fast fashion recycling, with over a million tons of clothes discarded each year. The waste is transported by truckload to warehouses and then rewoven into rugs, carpets, and blankets. The industry supports hundreds of thousands of jobs in and around Panipeat, providing a steady income for migrants from poorer regions. However, the health risks of the textile industry also include a health risk for workers who breathe in fibers. CNN visited three clothing recycling units without wearing face masks or protective clothing. The textile industry relies largely on informal labor and most workers have no health insurance or formal benefits.
