Hedge fund founder Odey goes to court to fight ban from working in City of London

Hedge fund founder Crispin Odey is appealing a 1.8-billion pound ($2.4 billion) fine and industry ban against working in the City of London. The appeal is part of a test of Britain's efforts to address workplace misconduct at financial firms. Odeay, who founded Odeid Asset Management in 1991, was accused of sexual harassment at the time and deliberately frustrated his fund's disciplinary process by dismissing its executive committee twice. He will argue that these actions were intended to protect the fund. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) stated that Odery had been warned by OAM's executive committee but was breached in 2021 and 2022 after complaints from a recent joiner and a recruitment agency.
