A federal judge has ordered the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to develop a protocol allowing clergy visits at the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building. The order was part of a lawsuit filed by several faith organizations alleging that the DHS blocked clergy from providing spiritual care to detainees at the building. The plaintiffs include the Minneapolis Area Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the Minnesota Conference of the United Church of Christ and the Rev. Christopher Collins. The government maintains that temporary restrictions on visitors have been lifted and clergy visits have been allowed for over two weeks.
