Healthy Returns: First Ozempic generics in Canada will be a test case for Novo Nordisk

The first-ever generic versions of Novo Nordisk's diabetes drug Ozempic have been approved in North America. The first generic version was approved by Indian drugmaker Dr. Reddy's labs on April 28 and another by Apotex. While these new generics are only available in Canada, they may be pressured by competition with other brands like Eli Lilly's Mounjaro. The company expects a low single-digit impact on generics, particularly focusing on its savings card in Canada. Once three generic competitors are on the market, Canadian policy requires a 65% price cut to Novo's list price.
