John C. McGinley's character, Dr. Perry Cox, has been a key character in both the original series and this season's revival of Scrubs. The penultimate episode of the season, "My Odds," featured a return to the character for the role of J.D. Cox, the hospital's chief of medicine after Cox stepped down in the season premiere, is seen spending a lot of time at Sacred Heart. The episode also featured an autoimmune disorder that will require him to spend more time in the hospital under J. D. McGInley praised the show's writers for not making Dr. Cox's eccentricities and damage one-note over the course of his life.
