Chicago is training Hollywood's next generation of composers

Columbia College in Chicago has been named the world's top graduate program for film composers by The Hollywood Reporter, with its Music Composition for the Screen MFA program ranked No. 1 in 2025. The school's two-year program focuses on students' ability to score entire films, shows, and video games, allowing them to understand the film's characters, story and flow. The program also offers an undergraduate degree in film composing and alumni return to the industry as composers in residence.
