President Donald Trump has ordered emergency pay for Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents to alleviate long security lines at airports. Major U.S. airports are still urging travelers to arrive hours early due to staffing shortages. Despite the president's executive order ordering the Department of Homeland Security to pay TSA officers, it is unclear how quickly this will affect travelers. Approximately 20,000 TSA employees have been working without pay since DHS funding lapsed on Valentine’s Day. The White House border czar, Tom Homan, said it depends on how many TSA employees will return to work after receiving their pay. Nearly 500 TSA officers have left the agency since the shutdown started. Maryland Gov. Wes Moore announced that more ICE agents were being deployed to Baltimore-Washington International Airport to assist at TSA security checkpoints.
