U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that American negotiators will be in Pakistan for talks with Iran. He accused Iran of violating a ceasefire agreement by firing bullets in the Strait of Hormuz and threatening to destroy civilian infrastructure in Iran if it doesn't accept the U.S.-led mediation attempts. Iran has pledged to restrict ships passing through the strait as long as the United States continues its blockade of Iranian ports remains in place. The two-week truce between Israel and the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militant group in Lebanon is set to expire on Wednesday. Despite this, Iran's parliamentary Speaker Mohammed Bagher Qalibaf has insisted that Iran is seeking peace despite deep distrust of the United State. The situation threatens to escalate the region's ongoing conflict.
