Local group distributes pamphlets to help community beat summer heat

A group behind the Burque Beat has distributed thousands of pamphlets distributed to the homeless in an effort to help them stay safe and healthy during the hot summer temperatures. The volunteers hope these information will help save lives and prevent hospital visits. However, concerns have been raised about public safety following a recent City of Albuquerque decision requiring the main gates to be open during the daytime for the Lofts at Albuquerque High on Central Avenue, which has been operating for almost a quarter-century. Many tenants are concerned about people coming onto the property causing issues previously existed, but Terry Brunner, the Director of the Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency, says the policy should have always been open.
