City council approves lease for Bank of America building, possible purchase

The City of Bakersfield Council has approved a lease agreement with an option to purchase the Bank of America building, which would provide three open floors for the city's Police Department with additional staff space and an additional 94 parking spaces. The council approved the motion 5-1, with only opposition member Zack Bashirtash dissenting. The purchase of the building would cost $13.6 million if completed by July 15 and escrow closes by August 15, which increases to $14.15 million if not finalized by then, with escrow closing on June 15, 2027. The city has 119 days to make the purchase final before its first window closes.
