NWS: Belton, Missouri, EFI tornado reached 110 mph

An EF1 tornado moved through Cass County, Missouri, on Friday evening, leaving behind significant damage in Belton. The National Weather Service determined that the tornado reached nearly 110 mph as it tracked about 2.1 miles through the city. The tornado developed along a line of strong thunderstorms pushing out of Miami County and into Missouri and moved northeast, damaging trees and structures in residential areas and near Belton Cemetery. Along its path, the tornado briefly weakened before regaining strength as it crossed another neighborhood south of Highway 58 and South Mullen Road. It then lifted just west of Interstate 49/U.S. 71.
