Duluth's Jade Fountain Cocktail Lounge will close on April 4 after more than five years in Duluth’s Spirit Valley neighborhood. Owner Kai Soderberg opened the bar inside the frozen-in-time Chinese restaurant in late summer 2020. The space, which opened with artists and top-shelf beverage programs, was a success. Soderger plans to move the bar to Superior, Wis. In late 2024, he will convert Superior's Boston Block into an artistic space with room for performances, art and cocktails. Sun Street Breads, co-owned by Solveig Tofte and Martin Ouimet, has officially closed, with plans to relocate to Grand Marais. The last slice of pizza from Brooklyn Park was served on March 22, coinciding with owner Roger Backstrom's retirement. Seasonal stand openings have begun, with Conny's Creamy Cone in St. Paul and White Bear Lake's Cup and Cone both opening.
