India is planning new incentives for phone production in an effort to bolster domestic manufacturing, a key plank of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's plan to expand its electronics manufacturing to $500 billion by 2030. The move comes as the country risks losing its tariff advantage over China for access to the United States due to a court ruling that invalidated President Donald Trump's fentanyl-related levy on Beijing. The new incentives are likely to cover investments from April this year. The country's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has held consultations with the industry on designing the scheme.
