Fijian director Tulia Nacola, known for her work as a carpenter and English-lit major, has become a leading Fijian filmmaker. She gained financial backing for a feature film after learning about the film industry in Fiji, a developing country with a population of about 930,000 spread across 300 islands, and wanted to direct it herself. Her film, Adi, is the first feature film shot entirely in iTaukei and premiered in a sold-out cinema in Suva. However, she faced challenges in teaching herself about the filmmaking industry, including dressing sets during filming on Love Island USA. Despite this success, there are concerns about the impact of film crews and tourists on the environment, particularly in the Pacific Islands vulnerable to climate change.
