Former state legislator Shelley Hughes has named Blake Gettys as her running mate for the upcoming Alaska governor. Gettys, a retired U.S. Air Force brigadier general, previously served as the commander for the Alaska Air National Guard’s 176th Wing. Hughes, who has served in both the Alaska House of Representatives and Senate since 2012, is the fourth candidate to choose a running mate. If chosen, Gettys plans to use his military management experience to increase efficiency of government programs, promote more federal lands under state control and address concerns about the trawling industry.
