Round Lake Earth Day event visitors tout nature over screens: ‘Attention spans are getting a lot worse’

Several Lake County families attended an Earth Day event in Round Lake at the Prairie Grass Nature Museum. The free hour-long program included crafts and projects to teach people about conservation and recycling. Participants could walk a nature path to remove invasive garlic mustard, and indoors, they could plant sunflower seeds in small growing cups. Participants were offered a free reusable white cloth bag with items such as a new hand shovel. High School seniors Jocelyn Cortes and Nat Cruz expressed their concern about the excessive use of screens on children's computers and expressed their desire to help younger generations learn about nature.
