A trio of adorable sea lions pups were released back into the sea off Redondo Beach after being separated from their mother. The pups, named Knoxie, Happy and Halfpipe, were found by rescuers from the Marine Mammal Care Center and were separated from each other. This comes amid concerns that sea lions are returning to dangerous territory after being shot and maimed across Southern California. The center is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to a successful prosecution and launching a "marina watch" to monitor suspicious activity. State Sen. Laura Richardson also announced new legislation to designate the California sea lion as the official state pinniped, a move aimed at increasing recognition and protection for the iconic marine animals.
