Advocates in Missouri are pushing for legislation for sexual abuse survivors in a last-minute campaign to ensure state lawmakers pass laws protecting victims of child sexual abuse. The campaign is part of a push to ensure that these laws are passed to protect victims of childhood sexual abuse and not predators. Gracia Macks, a sexual abuse survivor advocate in Missouri, spoke with KMBC NESS KRISTA TATSCHL about the frustration of the state legislature and frustration that their efforts are not being met with support. The Missouri House and Senate have 72 hours to pass Joint Resolution 93, which would allow voters to decide if survivors can legally sue their abusers. Macks argues that the legislation should be amended before 2025-26 legislative session. If passed by the Missouri House or Senate, the bill would require a single question before voters in the state to amend the Missouri Constitution to protect children from discrimination.
