Rebecca Gayheart details 'powerful moment' Eric Dane first heard AI recreation of his voice weeks before his death
Published on March 11, 2026.
Actor Eric Dane, who died in February after being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), participated in a voice restoration project overseen by AI firm ElevenLabs. The project was meant to help him communicate as he lost his voice and was also able to provide his daughters with a piece of him after he died. Dane's widow, Rebecca Gayheart, described the project as a powerful moment when they played it to their teenage daughters and revealed that Dane became visibly emotional when they heard it. The service is free for free to people with terminal neurological diseases that impact their ability to speak. At the SXSW festival, ElevenLab and Gayheart will honor Dane's legacy with a panel titled "Hello Again: Restoring Voices with AI."
