Former teen hacker, Matthew LANe, who was convicted of cybercrime after a massive NATIONWIDE breach of the PowersCHOOL network, has been sentenced to four years in federal prison and ordered to pay more than $14 million in restitution for his role in the crime. LANe was previously addicted to drugs and cybercrime, leading him to believe in the use of these tools. The Justice Department stated that the breach put around 70 million people at risk and exposed NAMES, SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS, Dates of BIRTH ADDRESSES, and other CONFIDENTIAL information of 60 million students and 10 million teachers across the country. LANE has urged parents to set guidelines and establish an online safety plan for their children. He also highlighted the need for parents to be proactive in addressing online crime.
