Juan Devis has been named president of Film Independent, the nonprofit arts organization that produces the Film Independent Spirit Awards. Devis, a media executive, creative strategist and fundraiser, joins from the Public Media Group of Southern California (PBS SoCal | KCET). He was the Chief Creative Officer at PBS SoCal and co-founded the independent film, documentary and emerging media-focused cross-cultural production company Ninety-Three Media. His appointment follows the death of former president Josh Welsh, who battled colon cancer for five years.
