Richard Hatch, the first season of "Survivor" winner, is still battling with the federal government over taxes it claims he failed to pay on his prize winnings. The amount the government claims he owes has now risen to more than $3.2 million, far beyond his original winnings total of about $1,010,000. The federal government won a judgment against Hatch on March 17, but he filed an appeal to the United States Court of Appeals. The final bill is likely to be higher due to statutory additions from and after May 13, 2024, including interest. The government has placed federal tax liens against two properties it claims Hatch owns in Newport, Rhode Island, and has accused him of transferring the record title of the Real Properties to his sister, Kristen Hatch, to avoid having to pay.
